All about Boxercise

What's it all about?

Boxercise is an exercise class based on the training concepts boxers use to keep fit. Classes can take a variety of formats but a typical one may involve shadow-boxing, skipping, hitting pads, kicking punchbags, press-ups, shuttle-runs and sit-ups. Most boxercise classes are aimed at men and women of all ages and fitness standards. As no class involves the physical hitting of an opponent, it is a fun, challenging and safe workout.

Clinton McKenzie is a former British and European boxing champion who runs boxing training classes from his gym in south London (020-7737 2338).

Boxing training is for everyone: Whatever your size, shape or sex. Remember, every boxer will have started from ground level, so anyone and everyone can work their way up to a good level of fitness: attend classes three times a week and you'll be fit in three months; twice a week and it will take six months. Most people don't know what to expect, so going to a real boxing gym is essential.

I have been a lifelong boxing enthusiast and fan, I have been training from the age of 15 at the Ring Amateur Boxing club in Derry which is run by Derry's most successful and well known boxers Charlie Nash.

Thanks to Charlie Nash and other senior members of the club who put me through the vetting and IABA coaching qualification. I thoroughly enjoy my role as one of the senior coaches at the boxing club and I would like to expand my role into developing unisex boxing in Derry.

Recently I qualified as a boxercise coach, I have coached in boxing clubs in Florida and in Sydney. All techniques that will be taught in these classes will be based on IABA (Irish Amateur Boxing Association) coaching techniques used by our Olympians - the same trainers who put me through the course are also trainers for the likes of Katie Taylor and the late Darren Sutherland (RIP).

I hope that you enjoy the classes, a moto which i will endorse is 'No Pain No Gain' so I hope you dont hate me too much afterwards :) anyways its going to be fun, everyone is welcome.
